time for bulbs
I’ve just discovered Thompson & Morgan as I was trying to find a non high-street online shop for bulbs – how had I not discovered them before?
So as the seasons change and we move house in just a couple of days it really is time to start thinking about the garden – and most importantly, the bulbs for next Spring. That’s the one job I never fail to get done. Imagine a Spring without beautiful bulbs coming up – it’s just not worth it.
Here’s my wish list;
Buddleja Buzz™ Half Price Collection
Allium Cottage Garden Mixed
Tulips pink passion mixed
Brodiaea laxa Royal Blue
Daffodil poeticus Plenus
Hyacinth Midnight Mystique™

Brodsworth Hall and Gardens
This was an interesting spot just south of Leeds. We spent half a morning here wandering around the gardens at the end of a very long drought. The gardens looked as though they were used to droughts, featuring a rock garden and some very spikey trees. It most definitely wasn’t your usual English garden, so if you want to see something different this is the place for you.
We had lunch there in a very wonderful dining room – we were the only people in it, early as we were with all the children. And that in itself was quite a unique experience in a lovely high-ceilinged room, original wallpaper and a proper dining table. We all had a chuckle when one of the staff opened an austere looking wall panel to reveal a cupboard full of catering sized tins of tuna as the woman told us she wasn’t supposed to do that when there were customers in the dining room.
Our visit also netted us a bounty of delicious wild strawberries – an absolute delight for the young children. There were fields upon fields of them, all set in wonderful shaded wooded areas where most certainly faeries did reside.
